Rideau Canal
The historic Rideau Canal, first opened in 1832, goes through the heart of the Township of Rideau Lakes. Most of the lockstations are still operated by hand, just as they were in 1832. They are fascinating places to visit. Within the Township there are six lockstations: Jones Falls, Davis, Chaffeys, Newboro, Narrows and Poonamalie. See the Township map on the location page. For more about the Rideau Canal follow the links on the links page. |
Township of Rideau Lakes
The township offers many attractions including the Cataraqui Trail (hiking, cycling), several golf courses, shopping opportunities, museums and much more.
We're particularly proud of our heritage and offer several historic walking tours. Brochures are available at the gatehouse. You can also view these brochures on-line on the Township of Rideau Lakes website. |
